June 2008 Archives

With summer upon us, it's important to remember skin safety tips! With over one million cases diagnosed a year of non-melanoma skin cancer caused by the sun, we all need to learn to protect ourselves. SUN2.JPG

We're not saying you can't enjoy this beautiful summer weather, but please be smart about it. Just remember these five simple tips and your skin will thank you for it!

  1. Shade: Look for shade, especially between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. when the sun's rays are the strongest.
  2. Cover up: Use protective clothing to guard your skin as much as possible when out in the sun. A light T-Shirt is like using SPF 4 sunscreen, so use clothing that has more tightly woven fabrics.
  3. SUNSCREEN: Use sunscreen and lip balm with a SPF of 15 or higher. Apply a palmful before venturing out into the sun and then reapply at least every 2 hours. If you're swimming, perspiring or drying off with a towel then reapply even more! And remember, just because it's overcast doesn't mean you can go without sunscreen! The suns rays can still be dangerous.
  4. Hats: Hats are another way to fight off those harmful rays. Cover your head with a wide-brimmed hat, shading your face, ears, and neck. If you choose a baseball cap, remember to protect your ears and neck with sunscreen.
  5. Sunglasses: Wear sunglasses with 99% to 100% UV absorption to protect your eyes too!
